Ready to save a Tiny Life?
At HWBD, we don’t just find homes for hamsters; we find the right homes. Our adoption process is designed to ensure every rescued hamster goes to a safe, enriching, and loving environment where they can truly thrive.
Before You Apply: Our Minimum Requirements
To adopt from us, your setup must meet or exceed our ethical care standards. We will ask for photos of your enclosure during the application process.
Proper Space: A minimum surface area of 62 cm × 42 cm enclosure (80L cargo box) for Syrians and 52 cm × 42 cm enclosure (or 50L cargo box) for Dwarfs. The heights should be around 45 cm which will prevent them from escaping. Enclosure can be made out of glass like aquarium or wood. No tiny pet store cages or wire bars are allowed.
Safe Running: A solid-surface wheel sized appropriately for the species. Syrians: Minimum 25 cm (in diameter) upright wheel or 18-24 cm saucer wheel. Dwarfs: Minimum 22 cm (in diameter) upright wheel or 18 cm saucer wheel. Although flying saucers can be used as extra enrichment but never as the main wheel, but due to lack of bigger upright wheel availability problem in Bangladesh, it can technically used as primary running wheel. No wire-mesh.
Deep Bedding: At least 4 inches of safe, unscented paper bedding or aspen/kerosene wood shavings bedding or chopped rice straw (khor) bedding for natural burrowing. Absolutely no cotton “hamster fluff” or scented bedding.
Diet & Sand: Access to a safe, species-appropriate seed mix (see out DIY seed mix formula) and daily diet chart) and a bath of white dust free aquarium sand.
How It Works: Your Journey to Adoption
Educate Yourself
Read through our care guides. Hamster care has changed a lot in recent years, and we want to make sure you are up-to-date on modern, ethical husbandry.
Build the Habitat
Prepare your enclosure before you apply! Buy the large bin, order the big wheel, and set up the deep bedding. Having this ready proves you are committed to their welfare.
Submit Your Application
Find a hamster you connect with on our Adoption page and click “Apply to Adopt.” Fill out the form honestly and attach photos of your prepared enclosure and NID/Birth Certificate for verification.
Interview & Match
Our core team will review your application and reach out via WhatsApp/Messenger. If everything looks great, we will arrange a safe handover for you to bring your new tiny family member home!
Adoption FAQ & Policies
Do you charge an adoption fee?
No, but we may ask an optional small (100 BDT), nominal adoption fee as donation. This is not for profit, it helps cover the costs of food, bedding, and veterinary care for the hamsters currently in our foster network, and it deters people looking for “free pet food” for business.
Can I breed my adopted hamster?
We don’t recommend. HWBD is strictly against backyard breeding. You should kept strictly as a solo pet (as they are fiercely territorial). If you really want to breed, contact us for proper breeding guideline.
What if I can no longer care for the hamster?
We understand life happens. If you can no longer keep your adopted hamster, they must be returned to HWBD. You are not permitted to sell, rehome, or release them unless we approve you.
Your New Best Friend is Waiting.
Now that you know what it takes to be a great hamster parent, it’s time to meet the rescues looking for their forever homes.
